- It is amusing to see the Congress sound all sanctimonious on the proposed relook at the Sedition Law, when it is them who misused it all these years with impunity.
- It is to PM Modi’s credit, who has done away with several colonial laws, and has asked for a reassessment of this…
- Supreme Court directive allowing those, currently booked under the Sedition Law, to apply for bail doesn’t imply that all of them will get bail.
- Some of them, who were conspiring to break India, have been booked under multiple stringent provisions and will have to face the law…
- In 1962, a five judge bench had upheld the Sedition Law. Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister.
- A three judge bench of the Supreme Court looking into the matter couldn’t have overruled it had GoI, on the instruction of PM Modi, not filed an affidavit seeking time to reassess…

The revenue foregone by GoI due to fuel tax cut is approx 1 lakh crore per year: Amit Malviya
Amit Malviya – BJP leader:
- The revenue foregone by GoI due to fuel tax cut is approx 1 lakh crore per year.
- Between Nov 2021 and Mar 2022, the states that cut their VAT on fuel have in total foregone revenue of 15,969 crore.
- Of this, 11,398 crore has been foregone by BJP ruled states alone.
- However, 7 states — namely, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Jharkhand have not cut their rates even now.
- By not cutting taxes on fuel, these states have earned an extra approx 11,945 crore compared to other states that cut fuel taxes.
- According to the RBI, the total developmental expenditure by GoI during the period 2014-22 was a whopping 91 lakh crore.
- This included more than 26 lakh crore in the form of capital expenditure to modernise infrastructure and create productive assets…
- 25 lakh crore for food, fertilizer and fuel subsidies,
- 10 lakh crore on social services such as health, education, affordable housing etc.
- The total expenditure on providing free food to the poor during the pandemic and beyond (March 2020 to Sept 2022) is more than 3 lakh crore.
- It is clear then, that the collections from the fuel tax have been put to good use as developmental expenditure.
- It is unfortunate that the Congress fails to understand the truth even when facts are placed before them.
